Amy Steinhauer
Amy Steinhauer, AM, LCSW, ACSW, is a senior therapist and the associate director of Womencare. For more than eighteen years she has provided individual, relationship, and group therapy, lead workshops, and trained and supervised professionals. Amy is a feminist-relational therapist whose clinical expertise includes abuse-related trauma as well as sexual relationships and problems.
As a sex therapist, Amy holds an appreciation for the breadth of human sexual experience and embraces a sex-positive, non-shaming perspective. Her approach to addressing sexual issues is both direct and empathic. As a trauma therapist, Amy sits comfortably with complexity, listens carefully for the narrative of trauma that informs the present, and holds relationships as central to healing. She holds a particular capacity to understand the complexity of sexuality in the wake of sexual abuse and companion clients through sexual healing. She is an active therapist who uses a stance of respect and curiosity to cultivate a safe environment for sensitive therapeutic work.
In addition to sexuality and trauma, her clinical interests include women's health issues and infertility. What most moves her as a psychotherapist is accompanying clients as they claim their voices and move into authenticity.
Amy values diversity and is LGBTQ-affirmative and kink-friendly. She celebrates those who color outside the lines.
Amy can be reached at 847-475-7003, extension 24
